There are many types of sugar that could be an addition to the sweet taste. Here are a few:
- Sugar or white sugar
Can be obtained from sugar cane or beet. Sugar containing only one type of sugar, ie sucrose, which is a sugar crystal. Sugar is a raw material for making candies, jams, and jellies. The three known high sucrose content within the food.
- Brown Sugar
Made from concentrated sap of coconut flowers, palm, or palm. Sugar content is 50 percent sucrose, glucose, and fructose.
- Sugar alcohol
So called because of its chemical structure contains many hydroxyl (-OH). Sugar alcohol is also a candy-making materials. Caloric value of sugar alcohols are generally lower than pasri sugar, but if consumed too much may cause laxative effect or frequent bowel movements.
- Sorbitol and mannitol
Derived from glucose and mannose. Only 60 percent sorbitol sweetness of sucrose, mannitol, while 50 per cent. Sorbitol is a natural sugar in corn, so called corn sugar. Nature is not heat resistant corn sugar. Therefore, the sweetness will be reduced when used for treating cooking over a fire.
- Aspartame
200 times the sweetness of sucrose, so use very little. Aspartame is made from two types of amino acids (proteins), namely phenylalanine and aspartic acid. This sugar should not be used at high temperatures because the amino acids will be broken.
- Saccharin
Is a sweetener that has kemaniasn nonnutrisi 300-400 times sucrose. Ability to form a concentrated solution of saccharin and the sweetness is very high, so that tends to bitter.
- Cyclamate
Artificial sweeteners are often used to make chewing gum or ice cream. According to some studies, particularly saccharin and cyclamate are compounds that are carcinogenic (cancer triggers).
- Stevia Sugar
Retrieved from Stevia rebaudiana leaf extract and a no-calorie sweetener natural, so safe to consume. Unfortunately, sugar, stevia leaves a bitter taste, but can be reduced with increasing purity.
- Honey
This is a natural syrup that comes from the essence of flowers and smoked by a bee which is then stored in the nest. Honey is healthy with adequate nutrient content such as complex carbohydrates, protein, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, as well as easily absorbed by cells and tissues. The composition of honey consists of 34 percent glucose, 41 percent fructose, 2.4 per cent sucrose, and 18.3 percent water. The main elements of honey sugar is fructose.
- Fruit Sugar
Sweet fruits that contain fructose. Excessive consumption can also raise blood sugar levels.
